UX Research Companies in 2026: Hire or Skip the Agency
Hire a UX research company when the work is a research program. That means someone has to design the method, reach a difficult audience, run a lab, or turn the sessions into a decision your team cannot make alone. If you already know the question, and you need about 20 to 50 interviews, you may not need that project.
This list is for a product or UX team that does not have enough researchers. The 20 to 50 figure is the size of brief those teams usually bring. It is not a sample-size rule, and it is not a promise of how many interviews any firm will deliver.
Nine entries are UX research agencies and UX research firms that sell user research services. Usercall is the other company on the list. It runs AI-moderated interviews. You can run the study in the app, or we run the study for you, from setup to report.
If you are choosing software, see 12 best user research platforms for product teams in 2026. That page is a platform list.
I checked each company's own website on 2 November 2026. A price appears here only when that site states it.
How to choose a UX research agency
Match the firm to the decision in front of you.
Write the decision in one sentence before you ask for a proposal. "Why do new users abandon setup?" is a brief. "Understand our customers" is a research program. A user research agency is the right hire for the second one. The first one is often an interview sprint.
Then check the method. Interviews and usability tests are common across these firms. Human factors for a medical device, an in-person lab, and a service design engagement are different purchases. Read the services page and see if your method is actually listed.
Then check the price the site is willing to print. Most of these UX research firms do not publish a project fee. Nielsen Norman Group does, on its consulting page. Usercall publishes self-serve pricing. If a number is not on the company's site, it is not in this article.
If the interviews themselves are the easy part, and consent, scheduling, and lost findings are the hard part, read Research Operations (ResearchOps): The Practical Guide for Teams Without a Dedicated ReOps Function before you hire.
10 UX research companies
The order is a fit order for a product team. It is not a quality ranking. Usercall sits at number 4 because that is where a short interview job belongs, ahead of firms you hire for a larger program.

4. Usercall
Usercall runs AI-moderated interviews. It is on this list because many teams shopping for UX research companies only need the interviews.

Your first interview is free. Managed means we run the study for you, from setup to report. An interview sprint is 15-30+ interviews. See Consumer Interviews When the Project Needs Evidence Fast.
Usercall runs AI-moderated interviews in 50+ languages. You can bring your own participants, or use recruiting. Recruiting reaches 95M+ people across our panel partners in 151 countries. See Recruit real participants for your research interviews.

Methods it lists include contextual inquiry and interviews, usability testing, prototype testing, and accessibility research. The site says it works with teams worldwide.
Best for a product team that wants one research consultancy to scope the study and run it, without a large agency.
When AI-moderated interviews can do the job
AI-moderated interviews can do the job when the question is already specific and the missing piece is interview capacity.
Use them when you can write the decision in one sentence, and an interview sprint of 15-30+ interviews is enough to hear the pattern. That sprint size is Usercall's figure for an interview sprint. It overlaps the low end of a 20 to 50 interview brief. It is not a promise of 50 interviews.
Self-serve means you run the study in the app. Managed means we run the study for you, from setup to report. Recruiting reaches 95M+ people across our panel partners in 151 countries, or you bring your own list. Interviews run in 50+ languages. Plans start at $89 a month or $899 a year, plus pay-as-you-go. Your first interview is free.
If your team will host remote sessions yourselves, see How to Run Remote User Interviews at Scale. If you are comparing software, see Best AI-Moderated Interview Tools in 2026, Ranked With Prices. That page compares tools and lists prices. It does not cover the agencies above.
When you still want UX research services from an agency
You still want a user research agency when the risk is the method.
Hire one when the product needs human factors evidence, including medical device research. Bold Insight publishes that work. Hire one when the sessions have to happen in a lab or a studio. User Vision's studios in Edinburgh are available to hire, and Bold Insight lists facility rental.
Hire one when the work is service design, a workshop series, or a product roadmap, and nobody inside can lead it. Blink UX, Akendi, and User Vision describe that mix. Hire Nielsen Norman Group when you want a defined consulting engagement and the published range of $40,000 to $200,000 fits the budget.
Hire one when the audience is so narrow that a general recruiting panel is the wrong first step. A firm that already recruits that audience can take the brief. For niche B2B, expert, or hard-to-reach groups, Usercall's sprint page says it may recommend your own contact list, an existing panel partner, or a smaller feasibility check first.
If the job is a usability testing tool, see UserTesting Alternatives 2026: 9 Proven Tools for UX Tests. That page is a tool list.
UX research agency vs platform
A UX research agency is a firm you hire to design the study, find the people, and deliver the report. A platform is software your team runs. Hire the agency when you need the method, a lab, or someone to lead the readout. Use a platform when the question is already specific and your team can run the interviews.
For a platform list, see 12 best user research platforms for product teams in 2026.
How much UX research services cost
Most agencies quote per project and don't publish a price. On this list, AnswerLab, Bold Insight, Blink UX, Key Lime Interactive, Usability Sciences, and Userade do not print a project fee.
Nielsen Norman Group does. Consulting Services says customized projects depend on scope and typically range from $40,000 to $200,000.
Two firms publish training prices, not a fee for running a study. Akendi lists one-day UX courses at $449 per person (CAD $595) and workshops from $5,249 (CAD $6,995). User Vision lists a CPUX foundation crash course and exam at £645, and training plus the exam at £1,295. Those figures were on their training pages on 2 November 2026.
Usercall's published price is an interview tool price, not an agency price. Self-serve plans start at $89 a month or $899 a year, plus pay-as-you-go. Your first interview is free.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do UX research companies do?
UX research companies plan and run user research services for a product team or an organization. A typical project includes the method, the participants, the sessions, and a report. Some UX research firms also run human factors studies, lab sessions, or service design. The scope is whatever the proposal says. It is a project.
When should a product team hire a UX research agency?
Hire a UX research agency when your team cannot design the method, reach the right people, or turn the sessions into a decision. That includes human factors work, in-person lab studies, and programs that mix research with service design. If the question is already specific, compare the job with an interview sprint of 15-30+ interviews before you sign an agency.
When can AI-moderated interviews do the job instead of an agency?
When the question is already specific and you need interviews. Usercall's interview sprint is 15-30+ interviews. Self-serve means you run the study in the app. Managed means we run the study for you, from setup to report. Keep an agency for human factors work, a lab study, or a question your team has not defined yet.
How much do UX research services cost?
Most agencies on this list do not publish a project price. Nielsen Norman Group says customized consulting typically ranges from $40,000 to $200,000, depending on scope. Usercall self-serve plans start at $89 a month or $899 a year, plus pay-as-you-go, and the first interview is free. An agency fee is for a scoped project. The monthly price is for software you run yourself, with a separate managed option.
What is the difference between a user research agency and a research platform?
A user research agency is a firm you hire to do the work. A research platform is software your team operates. This page lists agencies and firms, plus Usercall. Usercall is the software option, and it also runs a managed study. Platform comparisons are on a separate page.
How many interviews does a product team need before hiring a firm?
The agency sites checked for this article do not publish a standard interview count. Usercall's interview sprint is 15-30+ interviews. Many product teams start this search because they need about 20 to 50 interviews and do not have a researcher free. That 20 to 50 range is a planning figure for the brief, not a result from a study.
